about

This cover version of Elton John's & Bernie Taupin's song Razorface was recorded Monday, May 18 as a tribute to James Beoddy, who passed away just days before. Beoddy was a true artist & one of the sweetest, smartest, & most beautifully imaginative people I've ever known. In his last weeks we spent many hours together, as I was among a group of Beoddy's friends who were helping him with hospice care in his home. Both of us are Elton John fans & one of the things we did together during this time was listen to music. Elton's Madman Across The Water album kept coming back again & again & again, & neither of us ever got tired of hearing it.

Jim was able to stay in his apartment almost to the end. The last visit we had together was in a nursing home, a terrifying environment, but he woke up & talked with me, made jokes, and even made a drawing. I told him I was learning Elton's Razorface for him, & he told me he was honored. As I left last Tuesday night the last thing I told him was "I love you, Jim." "I love you, Happy" was what he said back. James Beoddy died Wednesday morning, May 13, 2015.
